Why can't we save patches?

I really dislike the current patch system on 360 of having your five most recent patches "saved" in your system's cache.

Why can't we just save them as downloads? Every time I go to play an old game, I have to once again redownload the patch, and if I bring the system to somewhere without wifi, I only have my most 5 recent patches.

With games like Battlefield doing downloadable title updates, why can't Microsoft allow patches to be saveable to our harddrives?

Easiest answer is that they don't want the patches to be easily accessible to hackers as standard files within the system, so they hide them in the cache.

Games like Battlefield do save their patches to the harddrive. It's mostly the older titles that store updates in cache.

That's seriously how it works? I just thought there were newer patches for the games I was playing.

How do you know its 5 ?

I don't have to constantly download patches.

Normally if the 360 starts re-downloading patches apparently your cache has corrupt files, clear the cache start again you wont have any problems.

Also I would bet my left testicle the cache holds way more patches than 5.

Best guess is its a size limit. It certainly can't be a number limit, because people never report the same amount.

I once reached it with only about 10-15 games patched. Since then i only patch SP games with critical updates or if my save requires it.

This is my guess as well. If you happen to play old games each with 4 MB patches (which was the size limit under the old patch system), the system could in fact only hold like 5-6 patches. It is a massive oversight on MS's part.

Then how do some games that use the cache for title updates, like Dragon Age: Origins, have 6MB, or larger, title updates?

Oh also I just remembered lmao hours later :D

New games it started a while back now put title updates in with your save games, not in the cache.

Look at your save files for AC3, Batman AC, Borderlands2, COD etc title update in with save files.

its not 5 thats silly. I have 20+ games installed and none need patches redownloading.

Fable2 I last played about 2 years ago and it still has its patch installed.
