Really want to play Halo 2, a question on Backwards Compatibility.

Ryan, nobody mentioned anything about XBL functionality until you did.

Also, your original post could be interpreted as meaning that since XBL functionality is no longer supported, that you can't play original Xbox games on a 360, period, especially since previous messages in this topic already established that it actually might be possible with a third-party HDD, if it was properly configured, you don't have to have an official HDD, you just need a properly configured HDD.

As for if the HDD isn't properly configured, you can actually do it yourself with the proper tools and software, however, the actual details on how to do it are a ToU violation, so you will have to go about finding that information on your own, if you are interested (unless a nice user that actually knows the details PMs them to you, and you are nice enough not to report the message).

I'm guessing you didn't read any of the other posts I put in either did you? You know, the ones that further clarified what I originally said for those that might be confused or misinterpreted it the wrong way, like you have. I wasn't aware that any 3rd parties formatted them correctly, until that other guy brought it up, and as you can see, I even mentioned that in one of my more recent posts.
Also, post #2 mentions the no multiplayer aspect via XBL, so ya, somebody did mention it before me, which is what I was referencing as well when i mentioned the LIVE situation.

Buy a 20gb official hard drive off ebay? They're bound to be pretty cheap now.

It will work by allowing you to put 360 saves, installed games, and such on it, but it won't allow you to be able to play original Xbox games or MP for a few select 360 games. To do those things you MUST have a properly partitioned HD(only 100% guarantee is to get an official one).
