Dark Souls 2 Info and Discussion

#1MirageMew2Posted 12/7/2012 9:14:28 PM
"Namco Bandai Games today revealed the first details in regards to their just-announced multiplatform title, “Dark Souls 2.” The action role-playing game will be developed by From Software, the same studio behind the first “Dark Souls” in addition to “Demon’s Souls.” It is slated to come out for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms with a new story and locations in addition to a revamped multiplayer mode. You can check out some screens from the debut trailer of the upcoming video game in the slideshow at the top of this article and the details below:

Built upon the foundation established by Souls series creator and Dark Souls II Supervisor, Hidetaka Miyazaki with development helmed by FromSoftware Director Tomohiro Shibuya, Dark Souls II will feature a new hero, a new storyline, and an unfamiliar world for players to survive in while delivering its signature brand of unrelenting punishment that players hunger for. Epic battles with gruesome enemies and blood-thirsty bosses await adventurers as they traverse through a devastated world filled with death and despair; only those who are strong willed or cunning can survive this journey to achieve great glory. Players seeking to share their experience will discover a revamped server-based multiplayer mode that will put a distinct Dark Souls II twist on the concept of playing with others.

Carlson Choi and Tomohiro Shibuya also have a few choice words in regards to “Dark Souls 2.” You can check out the comments from Carlson Choi, the vice president of marketing at Namco Bandai Games, below:

Dark Souls II retains the core essence of Dark Souls while evolving to present new twists and challenges that are sure to please longtime fans and attract new comers to the series. FromSoftware is going to take a very dark path with Dark Souls II; players will need to look deep within themselves to see if they have the intestinal fortitude to embark on this journey.

The statement from Tomohiro Shibuya, the director for “Dark Souls 2,” can be found below:

This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series. The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey.

Namco Bandai Games has not yet announced a release date for the sequel."

Server based multiplayer. Unfamilar locations in what I'm assuming will be the same world. Everybody who saw the trailer, can we agree that Anor Londo is sighted in the background? So it's the same world, same continuity rather than a spiritual successor a la Demons Souls to Dark Souls. I am unbelievably excited.
Prepare to Die.

Hopefully not another Blighttown. My biggest hopes are that it continues to improve on the open-world aspect. This was my favorite thing about it.

Here's hoping for an improved character face creation. Let's be honest Dark souls face character customization is terrible and on par with Oblivion. It's going to be 2013 and I'm looking forward in making good faces rather than hiding them with masks.

In a Japanese interview they admitted that their face character customization was terrible. I hope they take an effort to improve it. If they don't then it's quite disappointing being aware of such updates and not doing anything.

Trends in today's gaming industry reveals reusing previous assets or tweaking a bit with not much change.

Can't say I care about the face customization, since I spent literally 0% of the game looking at my character's face. I just hope that the PC version comes out sometime near the release of the console version.

I never did like the Souls games. They're not my cup of tea. It's good that they're doing well I guess, though I question calling it Dark Souls 2. Makes me feel like the series is succumbing to sequel-itis (or will be if they do a Dark Souls 3) and I feel like it'd be better to call it something else.

Ugh, we're getting an expansion pack basically.

Demons Souls
Dark Souls
Deadly Souls?

Why the **** would you go with a 2?

Dark Knight 2, no because that's stupid.

Anything that is amazing, does not use a TWO, don't make a stupid sequel to ONE of your games, keep making unique stories that don't relate, we like it that way.

Do they not understand their fanbase or something?

As one of the biggest Demons, Dark fanboys, I'm going to remain skeptical.

Seems like a cash in.

Uncharted 2?

Although I get your point, I see Dark Souls as a bridge from Demon's Souls exclusivity to becoming a multi-plat franchise. Dark Souls 2 can take everything amazing in Dark Souls 1 (which is everything) and improve on it. I love the overworld in the game, and I can't wait to see more of it.

While I preferred Dark Souls overall, I really loved Demon's Souls' Mega Man style progression. If DS2 is open world again, I hope we get some sort of fast travel system besides unlocking shortcuts.
