So why'd Microsoft let go of Mass Effect?

TT. Just wondering, because I thought the trilogy thing on PS3 wouldn't contain 1, but found out it did.

Pretty dumb move, I'd say.

Why dumb? MS probably got paid more to release the rights to it than they would have by keeping it exclusive. After all, it's kind of one of those games where everyone who was ever going to buy it probably already has.

EA owns the rights to the Mass Effect series. Microsoft only paid to have the exclusivity rights on their console for a certain amount of time.

EA had nothing to do with Mass Effect 1. It was published by Microsoft before EA ever even owned Bioware. I'm pretty sure he's referring to Mass Effect 1 going to the PS3.

Funny, I don't see the EA logo anywhere on my copy of ME1... :/

"We understand, Matt, but what about the intellectual property itself? Does EA own the Mass Effect name? "Yes. EA owns the rights to Mass Effect." And so, as far as exclusivity between Mass Effect and Microsoft, that doesn't exist? "That's right," he told us."

That seems more in regards to the series, not the first game. Same way Gears Of War is owned by Epic, but there are still hurdles that need to be taken to get the first 3 onto the PS3 because the game was funded and published by MS.

MS also released a statement when ME2 was announced for the PS3 that they were keeping ME1 on the 360 and PC only. So it definitely seems that there were some MS hurdles to get around.

That's like saying Obsidian holds the rights to KOTOR because they made the second one.

Please excuse my limited intellect if that sounded stupid.
