Having a normal enemy whose attacks are an instant kill is NOT good design./
Giants are not 'normal enemies.' They're non-aggressive, only occur outdoors, and can be seen from far away. If you rumble with a giant it's either because you wanted to (in which case you know what you're getting into), or... I don't know how a giant sneaks up on someone, so that's a player fail.

My Vampire got launched into the stratosphere by a Giant.
He was pissed because I killed his mammoth.
I was cocky because I saw ONLY the mammoth.
Sorry for the double post, but this is why Skyrim's inferior to Oblivion. Having a normal enemy whose attacks are an instant kill is NOT good design. Least only bad levelling in Vanilla Oblivion will get the same result; no enemy in Oblivion touts an instant kill move, aside from bosses maybe, and that's a big maybe. Hopefully the inevitable unofficial Skyrim patch will fix Giants having Avada Kadavra stuffed onto their clubs and feet :/
I kinda have to side with vigorm0rtis here, Giants aren't 'normal' enemies (you don't face them on a regular basis unless you are specifically trying to hunt them down) - same with Mammoths. They aren't aggressive unless you get too close, mess with their Mammoths, or attack them. Besides giants, most enemies scale with your level - if I remember correctly.
Man, all this talk about Skyrim really makes me want to play it again...
