What type of game would you ban as being "too violent" ?

You said that a rape scene might warrant a ban, History proves you wrong.

Whether it warrants a ban and whether a ban was successfully levied are two different things. Which works both ways-- you should know that. Things that don't warrant a ban get them, sometimes.

There's no sense in sanitizing fiction as long as we have a ratings system. I remember seeing 'I Spit on Your Grave' when I was... well, way to young to be seeing it, and if anything, it made me more alert to violence against women. That's a long, brutal rape scene for an 8 year old.

Games with explicit rape scenes (interactive or not, games cannot pull it off). I'm not a fan of torture generally, but it could be quite serious and graphic and senseless enough to warrant a ban if it isn't justified by the context.

Senate Hearings on Videogame Violence, 1993, Night Trap had "rape scenes" using live actors in FMV footage in the game.

The ban failed then and it will ALWAYS fail regardless of game content.

Not sure what your point is...

You should re-read what the poll was asking. I would ban games with rape. Not only is what the law has done before not relevant to what the tc asked, but that precedent by proxy could easily be overturned with the right panel/judge making the call. Lots of things that were legal, aren't now, and lots of things that weren't legal now are. Laws change.

SCOTUS decisions are not very easy to overturn....

Rape is depicted in books and movies, there's even a sub-genre of Porn that's fake rapes, all protected by the first amendment.

Same goes for games.

Nobody is forcing you to watch those movies or play those games, so you wanting them banned is arrogance and hypocrisy.

Hands off my 1st amendment, hands off my 2nd amendment. Both sides need to stay the **** away from my Bill of Rights.

This is probably the most lopsided poll I've ever seen, relative to it's votes.

Problem is, most people don't understand the Bill of Rights. Your right to free speech is regulated, as is your right to own guns.

I suppose anything that tried to be completely realistic (video game violence tends to be outlandish and unrealistic, thus helping create a gap between the reality and fantasy) or anything that tried to actually be 'educational'.

Thing is though, reality tends to make for a boring-ass game.

That's what ratings are for. Games don't make people violent and adults should be able to have the ability to purchase anything they wish to play and can afford. I'd honestly also allow nudity with a M rating as well.

Yep. Those ratings sure do work on kids huh?

Only because of parents who don't bother to do anything to stop their kids from buying whatever. Those are likely also the same parents that blame everything but themselves for why their child is a horrible rotten brat.

We can put all the info out there we want about games, can't force people to read it. Like others said, it would be far more productive to ban stupidity, and also to ban stupid people from breeding.
