Why do games running at 30fps look like 60fps on a HDTV running at 120hz?

I've played Hitman Absolution and RE4 HD on my 60" Sharp 120hz tv and the games appeared to have their framerate doubled? Why is that?

Also what would those games look like on a 240hz HDTV?

You're getting an extra transitionary frame shoved in.

Interpolation. It's great when you have a fast processor in your TV so you can reap the rewards of processing without the added latency.

Because thats what the extra hertz will do. Except you deal with alot of latency, at least with my friends older 120hertz tv it is. Playing Killzone 2 was a nightmare.

PS+ has paid it's self for me. So from here on out I will refer to any new games as free.

So if I get a 240hz TV will the frame rate be doubled to 120 fps?! That's awesome. Every thing will be faster. Are there any TVs that have 240hz right now?

I'm not a tech wizard but I thinks thats what'll happen. Except for the fact that the input lag will be so bad its not enjoyable to play.

That's awesome. Input lag is when the graphics don't keep up with the TV or something? And I'm a hardcore gamer. I'm not some casual. I can deal with a little bit of lag.

Check your TV settings. You probably have Motion plus turned on. While it does make the frame rate feel higher, there is a great deal of input lag.

True Motion.

It's blending frames. It's unnatural, you will get used to it. I prefer personally to NOT get used to something that is fake in the first place. Just turn it off.
