Gamefaqs Poll results. Really???

I honestly hate developers because they whine so much, so I always buy used or I just wait until a game drops in price. If the new consoles block used games, developers still won't get full price from me because I'll just wait for price drops. --- I smolder with generic rage.
Winternova posted... FuNsH1nE posted...So you are perfectly fine with not being able to sell something you paid for that you could for about 25 years (or longer) previously? You also failed to acknowledge that I was speaking about how I felt on the matter and not the legality of the matter. I would equally say it is ridiculous that you can be sued in this country for whatever reason you can come up with and even if you win, you still have to pay your lawyer a bunch of money and the person who sued you does not have to pay that sum (for your defense). Understand where I am coming from?
I usually buy used games if I disagree with the game maker for some reason. I buy new to support them. --- I praise the name of Jesus.

I can't quite catch onto why so many people out there are so obsessed with used games. Is the $10 Gamestop gives you off the next used C.O.D really that big of a deal? This. I tend to buy my games new, but occasionally I either don't have the money for a game I want brand new or it's release is so limited that by the time I'm ready to purchase it finding a new copy at a reasonable price becomes near impossible. It's like they'd be penalizing those of us who actually adhere to a budget and don't buy every new game they're interested in immediately. Although if every single game released on the new systems is also made available digitally then I have no issue. Also if they have a way to ensure that all your games will work properly on a new system if your old one breaks then I don't really care about the used game lockout. I kinda stopped buying used for 99% of my games back on PS2 so it wouldn't effect me really. --- I boosted some of my trophies. Please, judge me about it.

Understand where I am coming from? I would, if that were a hard and fast rule. There are numerous statutes that award attorney's fees to a successful defendant. Additionally a judge has significant discretion to grant attorney's fees if it's in the interest of justice and fairness, especially in the case of frivolous claims. I couldn't care less, as long as I get paid. --- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMKUUUvjjzo Fan of: Steelers(6-time Champions), Red Wings(11-time Champions)
Banana_Mana posted... RubMyDucky posted...There are many things wrong with blocking used games and I'm pretty sure it violates customer rights. He is right... In Germany, along with several other countries, just not in the US. Also, you people have to keep in mind, this also blocks RETALS, so gamefly is SOL, among other. Not to mention, you forgot your account info, or the servers are down, or your internet is down, etc. etc. and you can't play your games that are sitting right there on the shelf. The VAAAAAAST majority of consumers will NOT put up with that. Look up how well sony's DRMed music cds worked out. If you are a PC gamer you are used to steamworks and stuff like that. If you are not, well, I just don't see that flying. At all.

Understand where I am coming from? If you are to believe that the plaintiff has the ability to pay such a thing. One thing to realize is the system is so messed up that even if you are 100% in the right, you are forced to settle due to the large legal fees that can accumulate over years of litigation. Regardless, the point is I'm not buying a console that is restricting my ability to enjoy games. I may be left to just Nintendo in the foreseeable future unless this turns out to be just a rumor/the cost of purchasing games actually decreases (and to be honest, if it doesn't, why would any smart consumer buy these consoles)
My PS3 broke and I just sold off all my games, many of them at $5 or $10. Half of what they're going for used in gamestop, give or take a few dollars. Mostly to my friends and they enjoy them obviously, picked up games they were interested in or had wanted but doesn't always have surplus income to pay $5 cheaper than new. If this used game bs was in place? I'd have to buy another console that I don't want a year before the next gen is released or my games will go to complete waste. My friend also bought GT5, got bored with it and sold it to me for $25 when it was still $50 new. Later on today I'm buying two used DS Ls and two used copies of pokemans. Even if you don't use something, why condemn others who do? There's large amounts of people I know who just swap games.
I personally don't really care as I don't think I've purchased a used game in over 10 years, but that doesn't mean I don't think they should completely eliminate the used game sales either. They should simply reformulate their strategy on the entire process. They should just resell licensing keys for used games to those who choose to purchase used games, but do it in a way that still keeps the used game price at an affordable and relative level. I would do this by trying to keep the purchase price of the used game plus the purchase of a licensing key for that game in proportion to the current pricing of used games. They could keep this going by providing a kickback to companies that sell the used games to individuals. For example: I buy a currently newer, popular title, but a preowned title from Gamestop. Say that title in today's market costs $45 preowned. Rather than Gamestop selling it to me for $45 they could instead sell it to me for say $15 and then when activating the game I'm charged a $30 re-licensing key which keeps my price in the new model equal to that of the old model. When re-licensing the product I'd have to put in a code identifying the store that I bought it from and then that store would receive a kickback on the re-licensing at a predetermined amount. Sure, the stores will lose out a little on this as they aren't possibly going to get the full $45 that they do under the current model, but they could also reduce somewhat their purchasing price of preowned games from the consumer to compensate for this. This would possibly also pacify the developer's and console's current lust to push all new game sales on people as they would now be receiving some compensation from the used game sales.
Nevercomingdown posted... I don't really buy many used games. I do trade games with my friends though. |
