Aye, but weren't you a slave or prisoner on the ship before hand?

In Morrowind you are a prisoner on a ship in the beginning.

Damn...so much nostalgia from that video. Definitely the best in the series IMO.

I don't believe so. It opened with you meeting with the Emperor, who calls you his friend. He tasks you with investigating King Lysandus' death.

The game then explains you were on a ship and it was wrecked in a supernaturally powerful storm, and you get swept into a seaside cave that then gets sealed in a mudslide. As in all RPGs, it's not some cave where you die, it's a thieves' den teeming with loot on the way to the exit.

Gotta love RPG "you're awesome but here's how we reset you to base level" methods.

You mean the "Metroid" method?

Wasn't this gen, hell, wasn't even last gen.

Although, they did release it for free, along with Arena, from the official TES site this gen (don't know if it still is or not, been a few years since I downloaded them).

Also, did you start as a prisoner in these games (list taken from http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/company/2218.html ) :
-Star Trek: Tactical Assault (DS and PSP)
-Star Trek: Legacy (PC and Xbox 360)
-Star Trek: Conquest (Wii)
-AMF Bowling Pinbusters! (Wii, Europe)
-Bully (Xbox 360, Japan)
-Major League Baseball 2K8 (Xbox 360 and PS3, Japan)
-AMF Bowling World Lanes (Wii)
-50 Cent: Blood on the Sand (PS3 and Xbox 360, Japan)
-Wet (Xbox 360 and PS3)
-Rogue Warrior (Xbox 360 and PS3)
-Brink (Xbox 360 and PS3)
-Hunted: The Demon's Forge (Xbox 360 and PS3)
-Rage (Xbox 360 and PS3)
-Dishonored (Xbox 360 and PS3)

Now, I don't know about the whole list, but I can guarantee a number of them didn't have you start out as a prisoner.

Yeah, you're right about the gen thing, I just got caught up trying to see if Bethesda did it every time. :)

It's been awhile since I've played Metroid and Super Metroid; did you lose your gear before you even landed on the planet?

Those were published by Bethesda; their developed list is pretty narrow. They did a few IHRA games that don't really qualify for "prisoner opening" in any fashion. I think...

It's a running theme in The Elder Scrolls games, I always liked the idea. Fresh slate in the land.
