Does Devil May Cry 1 get any better?

I do have to say keep playing DMC1. Youve almost beaten the game and last few levels are awesome.

The atmosphere just gets extremely dark and sinister with the introduction of Nightmare and on. The castle starts to shift... Oh man is it awesome.

Theres only 23 missions in the entire game, and the last 3 are only like 5 minutes each. So youre almost there.

on mission 15 and it's pretty dull.

I recommend playing it on Hard.

*you get a far greater variety of enemies to face, more minibosses, and a better chance to fully explore the combat system

Don't you have to finish the game before you can up the difficulty?

Also DMC was supposed to be Resident Evil 2 not 4.

The first Devil May Cry is my favorite. I can see why a lot of people can dislike it since it was essentially a RE title and uses the 'out dated and un-acceptable camera style' (I hate gamers who say this)

Maybe your more of the action oriented DMC fan, in which case you should just play 3 imo.

That last line seems odd, DMC is an action game, don't get me wrong but DMC and DMC3 are very different when compared but still similar in a lot of ways.

I play a lil bit of everything on a lil bit of everything.
Not changing this until we get a Viewtiful Joe 3 or HD collection of VJ 1&2 (started 8/14/12)

Definitely play 3, TC. It's much closer to bayonetta, which you apparently liked. DMC1 is outdated in many ways and if the atmosphere and style don't grab you, it'll feel outdated.

Also, anyone that says DMC1 had a good story...I'm gonna have to question your memory, there. DMC3 and 4 have much better stories because they're far less serious, so a few incredibly jarring terrible lines don't seem as out of place.

How are you gonna tell me this is good? It's not even so over the top it's hilarious like in 3 and 4, where the terrible lines seem intentional.

Actually, maybe that's right. I haven't played it in over 10 years. I know that you have to complete hard before you can do dante must die mode etc, but I forgot you had to actually clear it before you can do regular hard mode.

I hear that I should skip DMC2, but how much better is DMC3 than DMC1? Because it's hard to stay interested. Maybe it's because I should have played it years ago because a lot of games have improved design wise and going back to one of the earlier games of this type (sorta the first), Soul Reaver was before this I think)

yeah skip dmc2. its a farout story IMO. how much better is DMC3 than 1? maybe on everything.. its just a better version of 1. still DMC1 is good though

I enjoyed the more serious tone. And I felt like the bad lines lent itself better to the overall feel. It was funny without trying too hard like DMC3 and 4 which were so unbelievably stupid and corny and over the top I wanted to punch myself in the face.

DMC1 had a very dark tone with sparse moments of levity with a few lines of awful dialogue which I enjoyed. Reminded me of older RE games.

I guess it just comes down to personal preference but I hated the over the top, constantly goofy DMC3/4 style. Hated it with a passion. People say its more geared to anime fans, well whatever I guess its just not for me.

Its funny, when DMC3 first released it was known as a great action game, but never hitting the iconic heights of DMC1. Over time it seems like all the sudden many think its the best in the series. I think its just a matter of a new generation growing up with it.

I dunno about that, I think it's more to do with the new combat system allowing for instant weapon changing and therefore a broader variety of possible combos. (not to mention the actual weapons)
In DMC1, the fastest way to change weapons was the R3, but you couldn't do it mid combo very effectively.

man after playing through DMC once, it's gonna be hard for me to come back to it. I'll slog through it sometimes this week since I'm almost at the end. Looking forward to DMC3 if it's better than this game.

edit: it's not that the game is too easy or too hard, it's just a lot of the design choices are jarring, and I'm sure this is probably due to it not aging well, which I suppose should be expected.
