I have a 8 years old niece and she got an xbox for Christmas. She seems to enjoy the lego games, banjo and kazooie, rayman origins and a few of the kinect games for kids. Also two weeks ago I saw the uDraw (RIP THQ) with a drawing game, got one for her and she likes it.

Banjo Kazooie is a good choice though.
