Cardinal sins of game design.

Putting all the money into the demo, and leaving the rest of the game as something of an afterthought.

Escort Missions - I ****ing hate them with a burning red passion. Protecting a stupid NPC that blows your cover when you're being stealthy, or runs out into the open and forcing you to not be methodical to save his stupid ass. I'm glad these types of missions seemed to have fallen out of favor since last gen.

Video game stories taking themselves too seriously while being ridiculously stupid - Metal Gear Solid 3 is a perfect example of this. Don't get me wrong - the game itself is fun. But the Cobra Unit? Laughably bad. In fact, the MGS series is pretty much why I wrote off video game story barring a few rare exceptions.

Unskippable/Too many cut scenes - same as above. If I already don't care about your lame story, please don't force me to watch the ****ing thing or not let me skip it.

I can get behind the idea of lives in games though because I spend a lot of time playing Run 'N Gun and Shoot Em Up games.

1. Quests: Why the f should I be the one to always have to do stuff

3. Multiple choices: If I wanted to answer a ****ing multiple choice question, I'd go back and finish school.

4. Fighting: Wow, it's 2012, we're still endorsing violence? This is what we want our kids to learn? GG.

#1 has always been the lack of fully customizable controls

QTE's , this is not gameplay this playing Simon Sez during an action scene

Button mashing for anything , what is this SNES Track and Field to open a door? stop it.

Leaving out characters and gimping level caps of SP games to sell as DLC , maps and missions are one thing but planning to gimp out on the guts of the game is another.

Bad analog calibration has to die, no more "curving ramp" calibration settings.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty has to have the worst analog calibration ever, you move the stick half way through it's travel range and get nearly no movement at all, then you move just a hair farther and the crosshair is racing across the screen at 90mph.

Just thought of another one I HATE that I've been running into a lot recently.

*Games with characters that speak different languages that require you have subtitles activated to understand anyone foreign language.
Fr example, Nier and Binary Domain. I play in a quiet environment, so I don't need to have subtitles for anyone speaking english, but it would be nice to be able to have them pop-up when someone is speaking Japanese!

I went through half of Nier before I realised I was meant to understand the desert tribe. Then I had to play the rest of the game with distracting subtitles just in case anyone else that didn't speak english popped up.

AssCreed 2 and GTAIV do this as well.

Can't believe we've had so many posts without the actual cardinal sin of all cardinal sins -

QTEs as boss fights.

This is literally the most anti-climactic way to move the story. The whole game, you're seeing how scary and strong the boss is. You're practicing on his henchmen thinking, "Man, if THESE guys are tough I wonder how insanely tough the boss is gonna be!" You see the scen approaching and you go hunting around the level for last minute health packs, ammo, and upgrades. You finally walk into the cutscene and

...
......
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It's a QTE boss fight! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

(here's a great example: Uncharted Golden Abyss - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCfff28t6Jc)
