Lots of times when a game pushes really hard for realistic graphics i feel it indeed does look realistic but also stale and boring.
To me its like plenty of things in cartoons/comics/animations looking cool in their natural setting but in real life it would look boring or stupid or even funny.
Im not against good graphics but i find life like graphics boring and makes the game less unique with no style. I like mario games, for example, but if they made the graphics life-like and realistic then it would look really stupid to me. Agreed. It's better if they add some style like Mirror's Edge did. --- well I am not like your dad. I worked as a chef at TGIF-Mattson

A grown man stomping a turtle to death?
Well, I wasn't stomping it, but pushing realistic graphics didn't stop me from enjoying killing tortoises in Far Cry 3.
I really felt the team did a great job on the wildlife animations. I feel cartoony or cell shaded graphics would have lessened my enjoyment. --- ~I was stomping goombas and saving princesses long before most of you were born.

It really depends on the game. --- Old School Games FTW!

Like comic books or animation, it depends on the content of the story and the style. I like to keep things varied.
