Is it easy/possible to put hard drives from fat xboxes into slim ones?

I'd like to save 100$ and be able to put my old 250 GB hard drive into a 4gb slim model...

It's possible from what I've heard but I believe voids the warranty. I heard that it can plug straight in if you get it out of the casing but it's not necessarily easy and I don't know how true it is. You'd have to search for it.

Won't that be considered tampering with your system?
Be careful TC you might get banned.

They're the exact same connectors and everything, only difference is the casing. All you do is open up the HDD case and put it right in your Slim that's it. Works flawlessly and requires no workarounds at all. I sincerely doubt anybody would ever know.

So according to xbox.com, you can get an old console repaired for 99.99, so when my console rings out (which it looks like it will do soon), I'll probably just do that

I wonder if I do that, will they add like a warranty onto it or something since it's repaired?

Yes, technically it does violate the Hardware Tampering section of the XBL ToU, however, no bans have ever come of it, and they most likely never will enforce it.

That. At this stage in the game, it's just not going to get banned.

I would buy a Slim instead of paying for a repair. Especially with all the complete dumbasses who did the "towel trick" because chances are you could get one of their consoles as a replacement.
