I think I'm one of the relative few, but I absolutely loved Kingdoms of Amalur. It's honestly my top 5 this gen.

Are there any games out there like it? Meaning, action RPG in a fantasy world? As much as I loved it, I'm officially ready to move on from it after 3 playthroughs.

I tried Dark Souls. Not quite what I had in mind. And I'll be honest, the difficulty of Dark Souls was not my cup of tea. In fact, it did nothing more than piss me off. Gave the game a good week, still hated playing it, and traded it in.

Not saying the game has to be quite as easy as KoA, but I much prefer it to err on the side of fun and whimsical over challenging.

The only game similar is the Fable series

There are other open world rpgs but with a darker, more realistic style like Risen 1 and 2, Arcania, Two Worlds 2, Skyrim, and Oblivion.

Fable 2, 3, Dragons Dogma.

Nothing else in the action/rpg genre really has as 'free' combat. while many of the games listed are similar, the combat is stiff, such as dragon age, Skyrim.

I really enjoyed Fable 1, but wasn't as fond of Fable 2. Never played 3. I heard it was pretty crappy so I never took the plunge.

I've heard great things about Dragons Dogma though. But I've also read that it's very challenging. Not quite Dark Souls, but harder than average, especially solo (I don't play online). Any thoughts on that?
