So to those absolutely loving Tomb Raider, I'm curious...

(no spoilers please I'm only around half way through!)

Seems to be a lot of love for TR on here and it's certainly understandable. From what I've played so far it's a great game and while it definitely has some flaws none are bad enough to ruin the game...although it is getting a bit repetitive IMO.

Anyway I'm just curious as to how many people who really enjoy it have played (and preferably beaten) at least one of the Uncharted games though. I beat the first one and got through around 3/4's of the second one and I have to say the further I get in TR to more I see how truly similar the two really are. In fact, unfortunately for me the thing that ultimately led to me not beating UC2 is wearing thin on me in TR. That is to say, how it's structured in such a predictable and "game-like" way. How you do an "adventure" section, then go right into a gunfight, then oh no SURPRISE look I have to climb there...oop I made it but who would have guessed around this corner is yet ANOTHER gun fight!

I feel like an opportunity was missed here to really take this game to the next level and make it it's own. I can't but help feel like I want it to be more open almost like FarCry 3 was but with more exploration. I'm still enjoying it but all the gunplay and predictable rhythm to the game is definitely wearing thin. I'm just hoping it starts to break the mold a bit more

I played a chunk of the first Uncharted and completed the second multiple times. I think there's no denying TR 2013 takes some style from the series but it still definitley retains some classic TR gameplay and "feel".

It's mainly like you said, going from one area to the next while occassionally getting to a gunfight location, while the other games, the focus was more on puzzles with enemies sporatically placed in limited amounts throughout the level. This game has more open, big shoot-outs and most similar to Uncharted, big cinematic "close-calls" either with enemies or the environment.

The story is of course more grittier like Uncharted unlike the older games which were typically light-hearted even in their more dramatic moments.

I've played all three Uncharted games. My favorite one is Among Thieves. Mostly because of the cheats and the 'Crushing Made Easy' glitch. That game is insane on the higher difficulties.

However, Tomb Raider is by far my personal pick. I love the weapon customization, the hunting, the open-ish world, and the gun play is pretty decent (Unlike Uncharted where enemies seems to take 30 bullets to kill where you only get killed by two; headshots you say? Yeah. Try telling that to those stupid armored guys who are more than abundant in the game.).
If Crystal Dynamics throws some single player DLC on the market, I'd buy it in a second.

Does uncharted have the auto-cover system like in TR?

To me, TR combat feels more like Gears than anything except it's not obvious because you don't have to stick to cover or use 'A' for all those contextual movements.

Not auto but the gunplay, climbing, jumping and most other stuff feels very similar. Main thing is just the overall flow is exactly the same.

I've played and beat all 3 Uncharted games, and while I did really like all 3, I think TR is better. I like the customization even if its not as deep as it could be for weapons and perks. I love the auto cover system and just the tone of the game in general.

Yeah I mean I'm not so much comparing them as to say which is better...just how similar they really are. You could make Lara into Nathan and this would be a logical and believable evolution into Uncharted 4. In fact it wouldn't be too hard to change a few things and make this an Uncharted prequel.

I've played and beaten all 3 Uncharted games, as well as the Vita title. I also love Tomb Raider and just beat it myself. I suppose it could be my passion for archeology that keeps me goin'

I've beaten the 3 main Uncharted games. Still haven't finished TR though. I'm at the end, just have no desire to beat it.
