I've put up with Microsoft's bull **** before, but this is a new low.

You guys still don't see the point. =/

It's a shame, people these days will use absolutely any little detail they can to deflect something they are afraid to address.

The point of what? The renewal warning is in three goddamn places! They are not hiding anything from anyone!

Like blaming someone else (or a company) for the person's inability to read?

I've had no issues with XBL subscriptions and I've been a member since 2003. Only had to call MS once to turn off auto renew during a brief 1 year period that they didn't allow you to turn it off yourself and took all of a 5 minute call to accomplish it, because I know what I'm buying and knew when my subscription expired and called them several months ahead of time. I then double checked the website to make sure it was off a day later and it was, and checked again closer to the expiration date and it was still off. Learn how it works and how to use it and you won't have issues.

This isn't "MS fanboys" defending their company, it's just how business works. It's a subscription. All subscriptions automatically renew, MS or any other company or service.

My biggest problem is that they make it a ***** to cancel.

Same here.

When I tried to cancel mine, none of the automated services would work and I had to call MS support to cancel it. However when I did call them, they gave me great a service. i just told them that I had a Gold card that I wanted to activate (i didn't really) and the guys were like "Alrighty then" with no further back up questions questions asked.

So I bought a month of Netflix when I was home for Christmas break, and today on Spring Break I sign into my account to find I still have Netflix. So I go look at my transaction history and apparently they put me on the automatic renewal plan, automatically without even telling me. Unless it was hidden somewhere in that giant wall of text you agree to.

How hard would it be to just send an email every month informing you that they've taken your money? This is just sad.

Yea man Netflix is EVIL!

How do you figure? You call a #, say you would like to cancel Gold account, then it's canceled. Very difficult, I know.

Something like this happened to me a few years back actually. I used to play Phantasy Star Universe. If you don't know that's an MMO with it's own monthly fee. Long story short I was banned from the game. But they never stopped charging my bank account every month. In the end they robbed close to 100$ from my and would not refund it.

Yes, a somewhat similar situation occurred with my wife when she was playing PSU two years ago. She got bored of the game, we cancelled the subscription, but MS continued to charge us for it. Not for one month, Not for two. But three. And with us complaining each time. In all, it took three calls to Xbox Customer Support to 1) finally get the subscription cancelled and 2) have (which by this time had become) three months worth of charges reversed.

Sometimes you have to get nasty to get what you want. In the end though, after some heated words, I got my way. Also, apparently Microsoft does NOT like you recording your phone calls with them either :D Even still, the subscription was FINALLY cancelled and the three months worth of charges were refunded to my credit card.

In all my personal business dealings with service providers and the like, the only "company" to be more obfuscative, belligerent and simply difficult to deal with at times than Xbox via Microsoft was the Condo Association where I use to live.

There's no reason you should have to speak to an operator during limited business hours to do something like that. It was deliberately designed to be a pain in the ass so that people would let their subscriptions lapse and keep paying. They only recently realized this practice is almost impossible to defend, so now you only have to click a few things on the web site.
