If I chop off the plastic thing on the xbox slim component cable which blocks use of the HDMI port at the same time, will this work? My monitor doesn't have a HDMI port but I converted HDMI to DVI. Problem is, it doesn't take sound this way. I also use a turtle beach headset.
So the idea is to get the audio from the component cable. I can buy an adapter that is supposed to do this, but if it works with the regular cable, no need to waste money.
The component cable has a big plastic chunky piece around the connector, right? Just crack that plastic off and it should fit together with the HDMI cable.
yeah, there is a plastic nob coming off the top of it which blocks the hdmi port. I am going to try and chop that off instead of paying $5-20 for the adaptor. Just wondering if anyone had success. Guessing if older can do it, new should too.
Taking the plastic off works. But you may get HDCP issues. It's not a big deal. It depends on your TV or monitor. Some will give you issues, others wont.
If you do have issues, the most common one is that the 360 reboots if you change video inputs. So don't sit on the remote while playing. The other thing is that the console might not boot up until you have the TV on, and on that input.
Some 3rd party dongles will still give you those same problems. The monoprice.com dongle should be fine.
