Some enemies do move on their own. I have had enemies run into battle tons of times in my games.

The free move I don't really see as a free move. These aliens are just standing around? That's kinda weird... I see it more as a simulation of them having been moving. It seems sort of stupid and a cheap way to do it but it doesn't really change much. I've seen them take cover in areas they're flanked on multiple occasions so it's not as if they take a tactically superior position based on information they shouldn't have.

I understand the complaint, but the game would be pretty absurd without the mechanic(it would be ridiculously easy)/with free roam(there would be so many TPKs that the game would be pretty much impossible on ironman).

The AI won't move or act until it detects your units, so there's a few ways you can take advantage of this:

1) Use a Sniper that has the throwable battle sensor, throw the sensor, and enemies within it's range will be visible (also able to be fired upon provided your troops have line of sight and available range).

2) A later equipment unlock, Ghost Armor, allows you to move your equipped unit (provided the trooper is "cloaked") into range without alerting enemies.

3) If you happen to move a unit into sight range, and the enemy is not looking your direction, you'll get the drop on it. It's more difficult to get this option, but it <can> be done.

It's gotten obvious why people hate such games, I know someone who HATES and LOATHES such a fact about his games selling crap compared to COD and blindly hates it. It's true for a lot of people and the most common one too.

Or they can hate it for numerous faults, like the insane lag in BOII MP.

Which I doubt a majority of the haters even play COD.

*puts on sweater vest and lights up smoking pipe* Why, I remember back in my day, the original game had the AI going about it's business during the alien turn rather than waiting for you to show up and they didn't get no free half-turn neither. Smart use of tactical movement was rewarded with increased odds of getting the drop those alien scum. Like nature intended.

but they do , do their own business when they are in the middle of alien activity...you're going to be mad during a terror event when time is off the essence.

Uh, use the scout with double movement?

Use the scout with sensors?

^this, the reason op is being seen by the enemy is because hes moving within their viewing radius..the above units can see the enemy without the enemy seeing them.

It's a known fact that XCOM isn't for everyone. Kinda like Dark Souls. I personally love XCOM but it does have a bit of a learning curve. Hey TC, have you tried Black Ops 2 yet? I hear it's pretty to pick up and play.

LOL, what about my original post leads you to believe this game is going over my head? And WTF is with the attitude? Are you some kind of hardcore elitist?

If you can't handle someone pointing out a flaw in your game you probably should just avoid posting.

its not a flaw in the game, its a flaw in your logic. their are units that can see further than others.

.

^ exactly this as well. There is no shame in a game "not being for you". It isn't a criticism for someone to say it. Xcom isn't a run n' gun type game...In development they were adamant about this in fact. Many times if you move just right, you can actually get the drop on them while they are preparing the wrapped humans...There are many (myself included) that prefer to jump into cover however and move that extra square or 2 which causes me to be seen...If I am seen, I expect the enemy to be startled and for them to run into cover.

Not really sure what your ranks are for your soldiers or what you have researched, but there are ways for your soldiers to have similar abilities that the aliens have as well and more that they do not. Also, use your scouts to...well scout.
