Games in USA = Product. Games in Japan = Art

Skyrim, Halo, and Assassin's Creed have art teams, animators, etc.
Just curious as to why those Japanese games are art but these games can not be considered art.
Hell COD has set pieces I think (never played any COD but 2). Which is art.

Lol, assassin's creed isn't American.

Also the two categories aren't mutually exclusive. Art is generally a product as well.

Final Fantasy certainly is not art. Its a just crap rpg, churning out garbage sequels, thats a product if anything.

Hell, I'd say a game Mass Effect Trilogy is more art then anything outta japan this gen.

I don't ever recall a painter selling his work and then saying "if you want the the rest of the painting, you will need to pay me extra".

No, but plenty of Japanese games do.

I can easily name 10 games that are better than most of Japan's games out now.(Opinion)

1. Battlefield 3-Rather you like the FPS genre or not we all got to admit that it is one of the best.

2. Red Dead Redemption-Awesome Story, Open World, and fun gameplay.

3. Halo series-Great story, stays relevant throughout the gen unlike some others.

4. The Witcher series- Mature story, awesome art style, and awesome characters

5. Borderlands 2-Lots of guns

6. Minecraft-A legobox that you can do whatever you want in

7. GTA-Same as Red Dead Redemption, but minus the story

8. Bioshock Infinite-AMAZING STORY, fun gameplay, awesome art style

9. ME series-Some say it defined this gen

10. Skyrim-SO MUCH CONTENT, amazing graphics.

The J's and the W's both have awesome games.

lol almost all of them revolve around shooting stuff

I'd rather have a game than "art". Seriously, does elevating your game to the status of "art" make you feel better about living in your mom's basement at age thirty? You're not playing games all day, you're playing art! It's high class; people just don't understand.

Single Player-based
Rare DLC
Unique Soundtracks
Pre-order art books

Neither is better than the other. Both are different.

1.) japanese gamers do not like multiplayer anything. Hell, even their arcade cabinets are single player ones.
2.) Capcom has even commented on this and because DLC is so rare is because there's no market for it in japan... no one buys DLC over there.
3.) its all jrock and jpop these days, so whats your point?
4.) They have a long history of art, period. Plus everything has an art book these days in Japan. They're like our coffee table books.

But I will agree on the "art" aspect because japanese developers have a habit of making their "vision" when it comes to making games and it can be a hit or miss. They never decide on what the audience wants but only what they, the creator, wants and it can destroy everything. Look at where Final Fantasy has landed.

tired of FPS and sport games............................

But I have to say that 8 bit and 16 bit are video game golden era because we see how creative those game producers & companies tried to do.

I drink montagne rosée whilst listening to Mozart.
