Fun multiplayer games?

#1green butterPosted 5/16/2013 8:53:05 AM
I just graduated from college and now I'll be home applying to jobs and generally being bored as hell.

What's a good multiplayer game to get? Preferably retail (I have very little HD space for an arcade game), with fun online options, some competitive aspects to it (everyone wants to win, not a game like CoD where everyone just tries to get their own personal best scores).

I don't care what genre. A good single player mode is a nice bonus. Local multiplayer is also a great bonus, especially if it's 3+ players.

For some examples of multiplayer games I really like:
- Halo games
- Gears games
- Mortal Kombat
- Left 4 Dead 2
- Dead Rising 2
- Resident Evil 5
- Borderlands 2

I'll be at a game store later today so I have to decide now.

Thanks for any help!

Battlefield and Injustice are both excellent (well, I included Injustice because you said you enjoyed MK's online. I couldn't get either to quit lagging long enough for me to play, though)

Oooh, Injustice is a good suggestion. I played it once and it was AWESOME (I loved MK so much).

I'm not a big Battlefield fan, though. I liked Bad Company 2 a lot but I hated Battlefield 3.

perfect dark (arcade game 800 pts/$10) same a below

perfect dark zero (like $2 at gamestop) has bots and is 4 player splitscreen

Fable 2-3 has local and online but fable 2 online is hard to play since you have to stick right by each other but 3 you don't have to

Also try out Mass Effect 3. It's not competitive, but it's definitely surprisingly fun

Get the orange box and play TF2. Best MP there is on Live.

I really enjoyed Resident Evil 6 playing co op and doing mercenaries mode. Of course it seems to be a love hate game. But if your looking for a TPS again zombies and other crazy RE bio weapons you should enjoy it as long as your not expecting surivial horror or 100% creepy enviornemnts, though there are some.

There always Borderlands 1, I still find it enjoyable despite part 2 being better, and the GOTY is less then $20 so thats tons of content at a great price.

Also I really enjoyed Resident Evil Racoon City, a total TPS against zombies and other RE creatures. Its a little rough though compared to more polished titles on your list like Gears or even other RE games. Has a bunch of competitive multiplayer modes too.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Campaign is singple player only, but the game has stadard death match multi player mode, and a horde mode, but I think you ahd pay for horde.

I've played both and I think a strong argument can be made that vanilla TF2 is better because the focus is on the core gameplay that makes it fun and worth playing in the first place.
