Story vs. Gameplay - POLL

#41pothocketPosted 5/18/2013 9:47:12 AM
People telling others the "obvious" answer in their own poll is probably the mostly idiotically annoying thing I've seen on this site.

I'm not going to answer a poll that is telling me what to do.

Also. I claim that this poll is officially biased due to the fact that the TC himself added in a strong hint towards gameplay and thus pretty much ruined this poll. If you make a poll. Make it neutral at least. My proof of this?

I made a poll. Let your voice be heard so we can end this nonsense once and for all.

Vote gameplay.

This was in another topic. You OFFICIALLY is encouraging votes for one side and is trying to make people only vote for it. This crap is officially to biased to ever get a reading from so please TC. Either try again in a year or give up on this. It is obvious you have tampered with this far to much.

"OFFICIALLY is"

Huh?

Also, seems that you are just upset that your stance is losing. Doesn't matter if I voice my opinion in the poll or not, a majority of people will always choose gameplay first.

Sorry you are so bitter about your opinion being the minority.

I still play Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Asteroids, Centipede, Defender, Robotron 2084, etc all the time. I don't need a story to have fun gaming.

This gen, there's Trials HD/Evolution. No story, but gameplay that is better than just about anything else.

Yet the thing they talk about is never the gameplay. They always talk about the story of each video game instead. Also, do not underestimate writing. With every story you have to re-edit it over 5 times to make sure things are totally fine and make sense with each other. Heck. Many plot holes are made in stories is because the author thought of something cool to do and just went with it without explaination. If a writer can't edit such a thing to make sense. That is how a plot hole is created and it literally DESTROYS the entire work of fiction or non-fiction completely.

I think you are grossly underestimating how much people talk about gameplay. Either that, or you are just filtering it out because of your bias.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for its story is like watching porn for it's story.

It's close to 25% as of this writing. If you asked the same question 10 years ago, it'd be half that. 20 years ago and it'd be nothing.

The industry is changing in many different directions all at once.

video GAME

If I want a great story with awful gameplay I'll read a book.

>flip page to continue reading

Best example of this: Ninja Gaiden 2, The story was nonsensical and was all over the place. Yet this was more than made up for by NG2 IMO being the greatest action game this generation (followed by Bayonetta) and one of the best games in general from this generation.

If you want a deeply enthralling and well written story, read a book.

I would like both equal, but I have played more games with god awful stories or no story at all, and still enjoyed the game because of the great gameplay.

In the very few instances where the game has a great story but medicore to bad gameplay, it has ended up being a chore to get through the game.

So gotta go gameplay.

*Edit*

Only exception to gameplay>story is The Walking Dead.

for me, even a great story can't carry crap gameplay, it needs at least mediocre gameplay (like Bioshock, Spec Ops). Good gameplay can often carry a barebones story (Trials HD, SMBros), but a crappy fleshed-out story can get in the way of great gameplay. i guess the point is you don't need much of a story for a good game.
