How come this gen, Western-made games were more high quality than Japanese ones?

He's not making an argument, he's asking a question, and thus does not need to provide examples.

He is actually while yes that is a question it also follows a statement suggesting that Western games were better than Japanese games this generation. Clearly the OP never played Deadly Premonition the greatest game of this generation.

The 360 sucks for Japanese games anyway.

Is that if you just ignore the fact that all of Capcom's, Sega's, Konami's, and Square Enix's games are multi-platform? Or the fact that there are tons of exclusive Japanese shoot'em ups on the 360?

I like how the GameFAQs spellcheck shows that the word "Wii" is fine, but the words "Xbox" and "Kinect" show up as typos.

There's still quality games coming out of Japan; however it's mostly coming out of the smaller developers. I think something's wrong at most of the major publishers over there; they've driven away most of their big name talent.

A lot of it has to do with the economics of this generation as well. Console games became extremely expensive to make and Japanese developers couldn't keep up. Plus, handhelds became more popular over in Japan anyway; so they switched.

Actually DP only has a cult-following because of it's quirkyness, so bad it's good factor and mainly it's story. Especially when compared to Heavy Rain and Alan Wake sense they were the biggest mystery stories in games at the game. For all intents and purposes it's a bad game.

The only aspect of DP that puts it in the "so bad it's good" category would be gameplay and graphics. Every single other aspect is aces.

Thanks for the examples and compelling argument.

The 360 sucks for Japanese games anyway. There are plenty of Japanese games on the DS, for example, that are still better than western games.

He does need to provide examples since it's a complex question fallacy.

Graphics and gameplay are still two very large aspects of a game. That said, DP also has an overabundance of QTEs, a story that doesn't know whether or not to take itself seriously at times, issues with dialogue and sound. There's a lot of issues that put it in that category. I enjoyed the game, but it really wasn't as amazing or terrible as people have claimed.
