Hrm, weren't there dialogue options in stores in Oregon Trail? Don't really remember, but I'd have to guess that the first game of this type would be back in the 70s, even if we can't think of it.

weird.i have played many text based adventures and you always needed to input the choice yourself >_>. As for VNs, i am an avid VN fan but they started in the early 90s. I think Monkey island 1 is older.
