What is the reason why xbox live is now giving out 2 free games for the year?

Does anyone know what other games will be given next month?

1. They are not free
2. The reason is to sell DLC for games that are no longer selling

No one really knows ahead of time which games will be released. Probably gonna be at least one worthless game per month since they kicked it off with a tower defense game. For the GoD releases, expect games that sold well but are well past their prime sales window (ACII, Halo 3) and also have a lot of DLC to !@#$ the wallets of dumb people.

Revived a dead topic to speak crap.

Games are free and the first one was Fable 3.

Also, there's not a lot of games that don't have DLC. No matter what game they choose to give out, its guaranteed that either A) it will have some sort of DLC or B) even if it doesn't have any DLC (or the existing DLC is free), people would complain how its a "crappy" game that's totally not worth anyone's time. Because really, outside of HD re-releases, pretty much all of the most talked about games of the last few years have some sort of DLC.
I like how the GameFAQs spellcheck shows that the word "Wii" is fine, but the words "Xbox" and "Kinect" show up as typos.

It's an extremely poor attempt to compete with PS+. While PS+ got Battlefield 3 recently, Gold members get a 4 year old Assassin's Creed. Thanks Microsoft.

Playatation Plus

It seems more like a poor attempt to compete with PS+ than anything else.

At least if my Xbox LIVE Gold subscription runs out I can still play the free games they're giving away. That's not the case on PlayStation Plus (that said, the service is definitely worth the money).

If it's just to sell DLC, why aren't the games free for everybody so that more people can buy DLC? Why weren't they free in the first place?

- They need to compete with PS+...although less so now since PS4 will require payment to play online at all

- XB1 isn't BC with the 360 in any way so they probably figured why the f not.

- They needed to do something with all the negative media surrounding them lately.

Well, PS4 being premium online doesn't really reduce their need to have their service appear comparable to PS+.

They need to win people over now so that they can keep up in the all-important initial sales of the next generation.

They are doing it because it's an easy and simple way to get people back onto their side. Remember not too long ago they were in PR hell before they got the memo and decided to literally reverse everything they initially announced (DRM, not allowing self publishing on indie titles etc.). Also PS plus already does this and Sony was way ahead of the PR war so they pretty much had to do this to be on an even playing ground with Sony's online pay service. Up until recently they didn't have to bother with giving free games but after the XBO announcement there brand was mud and not doing something Sony has been willing to do for a while was not an option anymore. They have been pretty much doing everything short of giving people fellatio to win them back.

It's too bad once the XBO releases and all this pre-release PR stuff becomes a distant memory we will most likely be stuck with the old MS again. I rather like this on it's knees begging for forgiveness MS, I get free stuff ;p
