Xbox Metal Console Stand

I bought one of these from someone on craigslist, anyone known anything about them or what they were used for?
It seems to be authentic, not something custom made, and there are a few on ebay, but no real information about them. Looks like something they'd put in Best Buy or gamestop. It's very good quality, the clear piece at the bottom to hold the console is made of glass and the recesses in the hooks fit the battery pack of the controller perfectly.

Seller I picked it up from said their son got it from somewhere in Toronto where they were from - something canadian specific? Didn't see any info on ebay to support that though.

Pic of the item from an ebay add, mine is identical:

That picture is tiny. Here is an ebay posting I found with better images

Yes, it holds the console, games and controllers - I was more curious if anyone knows where it might have come from or been used originally, like a display item in Best Buy or something.

I don't remember that specific one, but early in the generation tons of these things were sold at retail outlets. There was a similar one that had Guitar Hero pegs in addition to the controller slots.

Exactly, standing it up vertical, no ventilation, system life shortened down to months instead of years.

i vaguely remember seeing the rockband style one you posted, but this one is much nicer.
It's all metal and the ventilation should be just as good as if it was standing up on top of my cabinet.

No one was questioning the ventilation on that one, though hopefully grabbing a controller or game doesn't cause it to rock any. That will scratch games.
