My orginal xbox RROD for the 3rd time any way to get it fixed for free

#1Paulf001Posted 7/31/2013 2:59:07 PM
My original xbox rrod for the 3rd time i got it fixed twice for free now its out of warranty now. The xbox service site wants $99 to fix it.

Is there anyway I can get them to fix it for free? If I call them up or something?

Use the towel method, you can look it up on youtube or just google it. It should work and keep your console going for a short while. It is not a long term solution though.

It also causes more damage.

I was actually thinking the same thing but I wanted to get a game. I want The Last of Us on Ps3. Anyone think if I call them up that I could get the game for free?

True, but once it's at that point it's down the gutter anyway.

And just call up MS, BE NICE, and tell them how you're a big XBox fan, you've had an XBox for a long time, and you just think it's crazy that your console is RROD-ing yet again. Try and you never know what you'll get. Maybe even try emailing support before calling.

You'd be surprised how much free stuff I've gotten simply by complaining in a very polite manner. At Best Buy alone I've gotten 100's of dollars in reward zone certificates, I've gotten tons of free GC's at restaurants, gift cards at Gamestop, Amazon, etc.

I've never gotten anything by politely complaining to MS when they weren't obligated to do something. Example: they refused to do anything for me when my HDD died a week out of warranty.

TC, check craigslist or google for a person or a shop in your area that fixes Xboxes. My brother got his fixed for like $30 by a guy on craigslist.

If you're not satisfied by the service or product that a business provided, they should do something to make it up to you (within reason of course). That's how customer service is supposed to work. Unfortunately, that mentality is lost on 90% of companies today.

I'd fix it for you by reflowing your board, but I need to ask for $20 for the service. And I live in Ma.

Use a hair dryer or better yet a heat gun to get the board to reflow. YouTube it.
