Bare minimum internet speeds to not lag?

#1koichiPosted 8/28/2013 11:10:50 AM
My friend wants to get the internet but because of child support and his gf not working, they dont have a super income. Whats the bare speeds needed to enjoy a multiplayer game?

My friend has 2.5 mbps download and .6 mbps upload, he is more than fine to play games with us, no lag or anything, BUT he does have trouble joining people who have certain internet connections, (I think time warner cable he can't connect to)

Ping is a lot more important than download/upload speed for gaming. I wouldn't go below the speeds pigout mentioned though.

His issue is in his NAT settings or their NAT settings not the ISP they use.

Ping is an arbitrary number as you have no way of knowing who you will connect to and as such what your ping at that time will be.

It isn't mentioned what online games the person is looking to play either.

Why are you asking him why? You already established in previous posts you know enough about upload\download speeds. I'm SURE you know he probably just over shot it a bit.

Why play stupid games?

You realized when posting that I was going to ask you why as well right?

Because that's a decent speed where you shouldn't see lag...
