Apparently, the PS3 has sold about 700,000 more consoles so far:

What is interesting is how they break up depending on Country...
The US has twice the number of XB360's sold compared to the PS3. Whereas in Japan the XB360 doesn't even make a dent in overall sales.
So it's important to look at the regional sales, and not just focus on overall world-wide sales. The reason being because the companies don't make much money off of console sales, but make the majority of their money off of game-sales. So you need to look at the attach-rate of games per console per Country. And if I am not mistaken, the US has the highest attach rate of games per console than any other Nation, which means that more games are sold. (although this is with console sales, as hand-helds are a different matter).
So you have to take a broader perspective when looking at overall console sales per region.
So basically, the PS3 has sold more consoles world-wide, the XB360 makes a bigger profit because more XB 360 games are sold compared to PS3 games. Just look at the game-sales of most games comparing the XB 360 version to the PS3 version...it's not even close.
