Hi. Xbox was fine before. Now it won't read the discs of any of my games. Even brand new ones. Any ideas as to what it is?

Does it just say "Open tray" on the dash? And is it a non-Slim console?

Uh, yes, sir. They're driving an '84... Sheepdog.

Yea, most of the time it doesn't even read it. It's a halo reach version, don't know if that's slim or not

It sounds like you 360 is broken bro. Broken disk drives are a common issue.

Before you comment on one of my posts, please research the Dunning-Kruger effect. Best game of all time: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Gamefaqs mods are a joke.

Sometimes it'll play for like 5 mins then say it can't read it. But if it is the disc drive, what's the best way of getting this fixed? And roughly how much?

Id say the laser just needs a clean.

Mine did this last June and I opened it up, opened the dvd drive, gave it a wipe with a cotton bud and hey presto! Still working perfectly to this day.

If you have Kinect just speak to it. Say "Xbox play disc". Or try "Play Xbox game".

Yes.

The optical drives have a high fail rate on pre-Slim consoles. They all go eventually. It costs $100 to send this in for an official Microsoft repair. You could check to see if there is anyone in your area who repairs game consoles or disk drives. Usually they charge about $50, but the drive will fail again. Your best bet is to just buy a new console.

^You can avoid it by installing games right?
