Looking at cheap headsets...

#1OverburdenedPosted 2/18/2014 12:37:52 PM
I'm not after anything ground breaking. Just some simple ones that I can hear the game through, and have a decent mic (compared to the standard one that comes with the console).

TurtleBeach: PX11

Triton: Kunai stereo wired gaming headset

TurtleBeach: earforce X12

Going by looks, I like the Tritons. They're all Stereo wired headsets.

Any help would be appreciated. Don't recommend more expensive different ones, because I don't need or want them, just some basic headphones I'm after :)

Since you want an inexpensive headset - anything from TB and Tritton will do. You could also look up some reviews on Youtube.

I've owned Turtle Beaches and the Trittons

I would highly suggest the TB's. The trittons hurt my ears after like an hour of use and i think the sound quality is lower then the turtles

I have the X12s and I love them. They're obviously not the quality you'd get out of a $300 pair of headphones, but for what they cost they sound great. They're really comfortable, and the separate game and mic audio is awesome. I use them with my PC, too.

P.S. You'll also want to get this adapter (or a similar one) with probably any headset you buy.

Thanks for everyone's help. I'll probably go with the TB's

I can't click the link at the moment. Why do I need an adaptor? What's it's purpose.

I can hear game and chat through the headphones without it can i?

Sorry I'm very dull when it comes to these things

If your 360 is connected via the standard Xbox A/V cable, you can just hook the headphones up directly to the red/white audio output.

If you're using HDMI, however, your options are to either:
1) purchase a separate optical audio cable for the headset (depending on the headset's and your Xbox's connections)
2) pry off the plastic cover of your Xbox's A/V cable so that it can fit with the HDMI cable
3) purchase the adapter, which is specifically designed to fit and resolves issues with the Xbox resetting when you switch inputs.
4) or if you have an E model, you can plug straight into the 3.5 mm jack

Ah I see. I have an 'S' model. And have the Red, White, Green and White plugged in I think, with the Yellow plug not plugged in. (I think it's like that, maybe i have the colours mixed up, I'll check when I can)

You're probably talking about the Blue, Green, and Red video (component) with the Red and White audio (often referred to as stereo or RCA). In that case, you won't need an adapter.

That's the one :). They're all plugged in, and the yellow isn't.

Where do I plug the headphones into then when I get them?

If you go with the X12s, they have red/white cables with an input connection on the back of the plugs, so they'll go straight into your tv (or sound system) and the xbox's audio cables will piggy-back on those.
