Why do people care about Achievements

#10JduhJuicemanPosted 7/9/2014 9:05:09 AM
For the longest time I assumed you could use them to buy games or something

I just saw the topic where the OP was playing Secret Service and he said it was trash but was playing it for the Achievements

Seriously? You're going to force yourself to play things you don't enjoy for a reward that's completely worthless? Are you gonna brag about your points to try to get with girls or something?

People like achieving things, simple as that. It's enjoyable to achieve something.

With your argument you could take it a step further and say "Why do people care about video games? You don't get anything out of playing them."

This is probably the best explanation I have heard.

For me it is how they go beyond (generally) beating a game. I feel that when I complete a game, achievement wise, then I have truly conquered the game from a personal point of view. Some achievements give you a strong sense of accomplishment when you finally get them..like this morning when I beat all the kleidos challenges in Lords of Shadows 2 giving me a strong 150gs but also the feeling of relief/pride knowing that they were brutally tough and judging by TA something a lot of people skip over due to there difficulty. Others like finding all the collectibles makes me scour these huge open worlds that the devs have created, fully realizing the scope of there project/time.

Overall like Canada Champ said people like to achieve things, because it usually makes you feel pretty good be it great or small!

But it's true though! Imagine where you could be right now if you spent all the time you wasted on games doing something productive instead!

playing a terrible game (or any game, really) JUST to get achievements is dumb. >_>

Meh... I've gone back to games I like to finish achievements lists. There is nothing wrong with finishing achievements lists if you actually enjoy the game. If you don't enjoy it, or even hate it, then I'm not sure why you play it at all.
