Should Assassin's Creed Rogue be 59.99?

Curious that Unity on Xbox One with upgraded graphics would be the same price as a last gen new title?

Discuss.

Did it cost any less to develop or create? Any less to advertise and promote? Any less to support? Probably not.

I don't think any games price point should be based on whether it's "next gen" or "last gen" but by the quality of work provided. If we start expecting companies to release games for cheaper, then expect cheaper quality of work and less support. On the other side of that, if they make a good enough game that people value at a $65 price point, I don't see why they can't sell it for that much.

Not to mention, it's a pretty strong bet given it's an Assassin's Creed game, it will be on sale for $40 or less within a month of its release, so the initial $65 price point shouldn't shake anyone.

No. It looks to use same assets and engine as AssCree3 and Black Flag, so Ubisoft is saving money. That should pass on to the users with a price tag no higher then 49.99. Maybe even 45.99.

I second what Gilgamesh21 said.

Ubisoft tells lots of tales about how expensive the Repeat Creeds cost to make.

So because it uses the same established engine it should be $10 cheaper per unit? Countless games use the same engine as their predecessors, even many games into the series, it doesn't make the game any cheaper to actually make.

What about story, plot, world and character creation, art, scripts, missions, voice acting, mocap. This is what you're paying for. CONTENT. Just because it's painted on the same canvas with the same brushes doesn't make the art or the WORK involved any less.

Yeah actually, it does. It makes the games cheaper by way of the game engine already being familiar to use, already having most of the bugs worked out, most of the animations and 3D models and textures were already done, and most of the sound assets were done already, all they needed was some minor tweaks, a location change, some new sounds, and bang, you've got a whole new game in a fraction of the time it took to make the first game.

The main reason they never drop the price is because the gullible suckers will buy in day one in mass numbers, and by the time they figure out it's not much different than the last time, it's too late, the developers already got the money.
