I use a vaccuum on the vents and stuff but it still makes lots of noise.

I don't want to take it apart because it will break the warranty sticker and then I will no longer be able to send it to sony for repairs and if I want to sell it for some reason no one will buy it.

Dilemma what should I do?

Don't open and keep cleaning with vacuum but risk YLoD because of all the dust inside.

or open and void warranty keep clean but never be able to sell or send it to official sony centers.

when did you buy the PS3? If it's over a year ago, forget about the warranty and just open the PS3 up and clean house.

I think my 3 year old 40gb phat PS3 is due for some internal cleaning as well...

Unless you've paid to extend your warranty, then your warranty is already up and you don't need to worry about the sticker.

The YLOD issue has nothing to do with the thermal paste on the heatsinks. It has to do with solder joints cracking on the circuit board. Which is why you need a heat gun, to heat up and re-flow the solder, to fix it. You can replace the thermal paste on the PS3's heatsinks, but that doesn't really have anything to do with preventing YLOD from happening.

No. If your PS3 was under warranty, Sony would fix it for free IF that sticker was not tampered with. But since it is no longer under warranty, Sony would still fix it, but you would have to pay them, regardless of whether that sticker has been tampered with or not. Once your PS3 is out of warranty, that sticker doesn't matter. For ANYTHING.

Open the PS3 up and clean all the dust out. I do this once a month. Only takes like 5 minutes. Here's a video showing how to take apart the PS3 (and how to replace the thermal paste if you feel like it)

Just skip the part about the heat gun and fixing the YLOD.

^ Thanks :D
That answered everything except the part about selling.
Is it true that people will be less inclined to buy a used ps3 that has been opened compared to one that has never been opened?
