What kind of cables does the PS3 come with.

Are the AV cables that come with the PS3 good to use on a HD tv? Because I hear that the PS3 cables only output in standard definition. I am getting a PS3 and wondering if it is necessary to pick up HDMI or component cables also.

Do yourself a favor and get HDMI cables. You'll be glad you did.

It comes with composite cables which only will output 480i. You need component or HDMI. If you are a previous PS2 owner you can use those component cables if you have them.

Will any HDMI cable work or does it need to be specifically for the PS3?

You know why they call it an Xbox 360
When you look at it, you turn 360 degrees and walk away.

Ironically, I use a Microsoft HDMI cable (I got free) for my PS3.

Anyone will work, however if you wanted to use 3D capabilities you would have to make sure it is a high speed cable, which is pretty much all cables you can buy now. At one time when they were still designated as 1.3 cables you would of needed a 1.3 category rated 2 cable.

Give me a break. You don't need to spend a pile of money on an overpriced Monster brand cable. Get a $5 cable from Monoprice or buy a cheap cable from your local cable company.

If you're only running it a 10-15 feet there is absolutely no difference between cables. Then again, maybe some people like spending $10/foot on overpriced wires.
