does it last for maybe the first 6 months then it's free for everyone> I'd be more open to this if it only lasted a short time and then online was free for used buyers after say 6 months. it seems silly for there to be an online pass forever for a game that likely the online will die out within a short time.

cause it's not there game....when you pay 60 bucks you pay to own it. they no longer have anything to do with your copy. however some developers think they do and are starting this online crap. i wouldn't be surprised if this ever hits single player.
there's too much mentality that when you buy a game, you're just getting a lease from the developers. that's not true in the slightest. your owning the game and you can choose whoever plays it, and what happens to the game. if you want to sell it or give it to your friend you should have the option.
how can people not see that this takes away from their right ownership if they buy it new? it affects new and used buyers. the writing is on the wall.
Online functionality is still a finite service. They can shut the servers down at any time and cut off half the game. Unfortunately for today's developers, they're focusing way too much on online, which will decrease the playability of the games later down the road. Anyone from the early 90's, to today, to 2050 can play Super Mario World to 100% completion. We can't say the same for many of today's popular games. DLC and online features will go away unless there's a way to preserve them.
Because online isn't a guarantee, companies can go ahead and make the online free to anyone who purchases their games new. They don't have to provide this service to the people who bought the game used. And if you bought the game for $20 used when it's being sold for $40-50 new, then why complain about having to buy the pass? If you're insistent on buying used, then buy it when the cost + the pass are less than new. Simple as that. If you're buying a game used for $54.99 and complaining about the pass, then perhaps you should look at your purchase a little closer.
