http://games.ign.com/articles/118/1181839p1.html Game companies want us to pay to play online if we buy used games to only shut down the servers in a few years? F-that! I am glad this is happening to remind me, and other smart gamers, to not buy into this whole PSN Pass ordeal. What a ripoff! =(
I don't get it. What's your point Husky? EA shuts down servers all the time.
Do they? This is news to me. Besides, if they start charging people to play their games online that require a PSN Pass from here on-out, are the legally able to shut down servers for those games? None of those games on IGN use a PSN Pass deal, but what about the future games that do require a PSN Pass like Madden 11, Madden 12, and so on. Can they just shut down those servers in 5 or 6 years after they took a person's money to play online?
Ok I want to know what Madden game or any game before 10 still has it's servers on that is EA ran servers.
ALL online services for consoles are finite, so what are you trying to imply? That because you're not guaranteed the ability to play your game online in 10 years or so, that you don't have to pay? You're probably going to just trade the game in well before the servers go down anyways. Doesn't matter if you paid $60 for the game or $20 plus the $10 pass. In the long run, you paid $60 or $30 for your game, had fun, and went on to something else. --- We need NO 3rd party characters in the upcoming Smash Bros! http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/games.php?u=256817
You go right now and try and play a game of Army of Two online.... Its dead. Every 2 years for sports games is borderline, but ok. If you really want to play madden 10 you still can, and when 12 comes out, you can upgrade to 11 for practically nothing and play online. Its not THAT bad. As a company, EA doesnt feel the need to spend resources forever on games with little or no activity --- Now Playing: Portal 2, Killzone 3, Crysis 2, NBA 2K11, Dragon Age PSN: AssaultMonkey150
Regardless, if they are charging people to play online they cannot just shut down servers regardless of the activity level. What if in 5 years I decide to play Madden 12 and there is someone else who wants to play Madden 12 too because it is the better Madden game out of the subsequent Madden's (Madden 13, 14, 15 and so on) but I cannot because they shut it down but still charged me for it after the initial purchase? That is not right and should not be legal. Don't tell me it cannot happen either, because people still hold NFL2k5 over other football games and still play it to this day. If a sports game is truly a masterpiece, it will withstand a test of time and should be available to play at all times, especially if you are being charged on the idea that you can play online at all times.

When you click the "I agree to these terms and conditions" when signing up for the online pass...Im pretty sure its in there somewhere We should be focusing our rage at companies holding back content as "DLC" on disk, and overpriced map packs etc. Not online passes, which, lets be honest, amount to basically a CD Serial Key, which every PC game for a decade has had to reduce 2nd hand sales --- Now Playing: Portal 2, Killzone 3, Crysis 2, NBA 2K11, Dragon Age PSN: AssaultMonkey150

If you buy new you are not paying anything extra. And god forbid if a company comes out with another installment of the same game each year. Seriously Madden 2014 is going to be the same as Madden 2012 with a few minor changes.
While I agree with TC that it's a bad and prickish idea, this is not the reason why. At all... |
