antoinejonesPosted 8/8/2011 8:03:25 AM | simple answer.... storage space..
most PS# blue ray have a mandatory install of 5 gigs not to mention the huge storage capacity a blu ray disc has... whod wanna wait for a 5+ gig game to download everytime they wanted a new game? also storage space... can you imagine how quickly a 500gb hard drive would fill up if you had a huge collection of ps3 games (like someone of you have) that are all 5 gig or higher files?
so unless they start coming out with 10000 terrabyte hard drive sthat are affordable (60 bucks) i dont see games on discs disappearing completely in our lifetimes at least --- My first time and day in Jueno and the first 6 hours of it is spent staring at a chocobo's butt. |
daveliciousPosted 8/8/2011 8:05:05 AM | To add to that... internet speed.
I have to wait overnight for something over 2 gigs to download... I'm not going to wait days for a 9+ gig game to download when I could drive to the store, purchase the hard copy, and drive home and be playing it 15 minutes after the decision to purchase. --- PSN: Davelicious GT: Davelicious46 NEW SETUP: http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee174/Davelicious406/DSC02294.jpg |
lambchipsPosted 8/8/2011 8:06:09 AM | i kind of want DD to take off (mainly for mainstream games) why? because it will be much more convenient for me to get new games faster (i wouldnt have to drive up and physically pick up the conent)
i'll just get my friend to download games on his steam account, then i can easily access it and dl it and play it ^well i do this already, but cant for newly released ps3/360 games (thats why for new games, im usually 30mins behind everyone...) --- phantasy star zero FC- 2364- 5734-1428 |

Grizzle1981Posted 8/8/2011 8:08:39 AM | I am considering buying a copy of InFamous just so that I can delete the free version off my hard drive. I loved the game so I don't mind buying it. I would always rather have disc versions of everything to files. Every time I buy MP3s, I burn them to disc just have a hard copy back up. I still buy CDs because of this too. --- This post is 100% opinion unless stated otherwise. |
Thermador446Posted 8/8/2011 8:18:19 AM | You are correct for this generation, but digital distribution is the future --- --- |

I think it's more this reason rather than storage space. --- When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. |

I'm not a fan of DD, and there are a lot of good points in this thread. However maybe they will change this in the future.
As for larger hard drives, it's either that or the servers where you download the games from would have to be kept running for one lifetime. Don't really want to pay for a game, delete it to make space, then find out ten years later I can't play it because the servers no longer exist.
Saying that though I do believe DD is the future, but the current system has a lot of flaws, have to make a lot of changes. Not to mention free broadband for everyone perhaps......assuming developers want to sell a lot of games. |
ChaingunmasterPosted 8/8/2011 8:29:00 AM | By the time broadband is available to everyone for free it will be as slow as dial up is now, and dialup will be unusable. --- http://www.twitter.com/Alos88- follow me and I'll follow you PSN and XBL id: Alos88 |
