Will any 2.5in sata hard drive work in my PS3?

My hard drive keeps giving my corruption errors and it will not reformat so I was going to try a new hard drive but I don't want to spend any more money than I need to on what is test and what might not even fix the problem. So will any 2.5 in sata hard drive work in my PS3 or are there other requirements? 5400 rpm seems to be the slowest and I am sure that is what the PS3 is using but again not sure.

5400rpm is recommended - 7200 run a little hotter, but don't give you a great advantage in terms of read-time.

Just make sure it's not a thicker-than-normal one, or it won't fit. It needs to be 9mm high.

Could I get a sata/power male to female cable and then just use any hard drive?
