Are all fat PS3s guaranteed to get YLOD?

No PS3 is guaranteed to YLOD. it's just doomsayers that claim it.

I've had mine since May of 08(40gig model upgraded to 320gig HD) and I haven't had any problems so far. I don't know what thermal paste is, so obviously I've never replaced it.

yep.....Sony GUARANTEES every fat PS3 will die from YLOD (which is RRODs big cousin).....they (Sony/MS) planned their systems so we would all have to buy 3 or 4 systems each so they can say they sold 70 million units, when half of them are re-purchases...

devious, evil geniuses!!!

I have an old phat ps3 that the disc drive broke almost 3 years ago, ever since then I just use it for the browser..... but it's been turned on 24/7 for almost the whole 3 years and it hasn't YLOD yet, the fan goes crazy sometimes, but it still works.

Honestly I've had more trouble with my slim then I ever did my phat.

Mine died in January, it was a 40GB model, I got it the day before MGS4 released.

I sent it in and it got fixed for $150 bucks, and then got it back,it died again, sent it in again and is fixed again (didn't cost me this time, it was under warranty from fixing the first time)

It's not guaranteed, but the odds aren't good it will last 10 years, or even 5.
