So pretty much you didn't full out mod your PS3, you had a "white" hack and now your wondering why your banned? How about people quit stealing games and software because they take YEARS to make, a ton of money, and a large group of people's time and effort. People put their lives into games, music, movies, software, hardware, etc and what do we as humans do? STEAL IT or PLAGIARIZE it. Think about this. You may not be going into a store and putting a gun to someone's face demanding their money, but every time you illegally obtain any of the above mentioned you are stealing. How would you like to spend 3-4 years, thousands and thousands of dollars that you earned, or got in a loan, and then when you finish your project your in debt, but everyone stole your project. Thats what people do with entertainment industry products. Quit being cheap and buy some stuff.

Now topic poster I know you did indeed buy your product, but hardware and software included is technically still sony's product. You basically pay to have it in your house, and to use it. Not to alter its performance. Yes it is kind of stupid to some, but I enjoy console gaming more than PC gaming, though I would rather have PC games.

Or just sell your PS3 like I did a few months ago..... I havn't seen a modder on xbl in years.

Christ people use your brains when dealing with intellectual property (music, games, books, etc.) When you buy the item do you own the idea itself, no you only purchase the right to use the item for your own personal enjoyment. If you break the copyright then you are breaking the law. ToS works a lot like copyright. It's there not only to protect Sony from losing money, but also to protect the producer of the game. You got off lucky, if they really wanted to, they could have taken you to court. Also to whoever said that the ToS wasn't a legally binding contract because you didn't physically sign it, you do realize that government papers like the FAFSA can be signed by a pin number that corresponds to you right. Just because you don't physically sign it doesn't mean that it isn't legally binding

Not really...

You are breaking the law, but personally it's BS when it comes to paying for something you could never own. ToS under the law doesn't exactly apply to you either. It's just a deterrent. That you could fight in court if you didn't do anything to mode your system. Comparing your agreement to signing for your FAFSA is not even in the same realm.

The law is BS anyway example:
if you buy a movie you can't show it to a crowd larger than 5 or 6 before it's considered you are acting as a movie theater. Therefore there should be a fee accessed because you're showing a movie o a large crowd without permission.

This is BS. All ToS is in a nutshell is a way to keep these people form losing money...even though you paid for it. This is why I don't buy movies or CD's anymore.

Plus you people do know all the companies know about modded systems right?. Sony, M$ and Nintendo take measures in making you update basically to plug up exploits in their software.

No modding of PS3 after 3.55 FW.
No JTAG of XBOX360 after 2.0.7370.0
As for Wii, not sure but I heard the newer systems are plugged up tight.

There are people with hacked systems show up online all the time. Play SFxT and you'll know what I mean. The big three only go after the real dumb people who just don't even try to cover up themselves. If they were so adamant in pursuit of the law they would lose money from those who pay for those downloads. Also there would be new lawsuits every day which would not exactly be good press for the company because they have millions going after some young dude because he modded his system. Then this big corporation looks like a monster pouncing on ants because they really haven't loss any money. If anything you should be mad at Sony for the security breach of your personal information forever because of the lasting effects of what that kind of breach does.

M$ knows they got people with hacked systems online but they want people to keep paying for XBOX Live. So don't point your finger at people like you work for these companies they don't car about you or me. Let them do their job and catch those who are doing wrong with their hardware/software.

To the OP, again you just stupid for thinking their would be any sympathy for you. Get a new PS3 and a new account and let it go.

The moral of this story is this:
Don't mod your system and then decide to go online.

All the more reason to pirate instead of buy digital products in the first place, in my opinion.

If it can just be taken away by the company, then it's not really yours.

Yeah. People are so eager to quote the law and point there finger. The big companies don't acre so much about modding they are worried about the almighty dollar they might lose.

But how come Sony sent emails to people asking them to clean up their ps3 or they would be banned, while I didn't get any, just an email saying that I was baned?

Was it cuz they saw I had black persons name?

My night has been made. I literally laughed out loud 3 something in the morning.

I do sympathize with you.

If you were banned for good reason, you lose your account, lock stock.

Harsh, but maybe don't get banned in the future.

Also, since you're making a topic about being ripped off rather than "WTF, why was I banned?".......you got your comeuppance

Digital distribution is the future, they said. DRM doesn't hurt the consumers, they said. This is what you all have to look forward to in the future. All because you guys had to buy Diablo III.

But to stay on topic, lol @ TC. You totally deserved it. It's common knowledge that installing custom firmware will get you banned. It's also common knowledge that getting your account banned can lead to losing access to games you've already purchased. There are tons of horror stories going around of people losing access to their games on PSN or Steam just because they got banned for whatever reason. Do some research next time.
