Study confirms most gamers are sheep: Review averages directly influence sales.

The games that get high scores from the majority of reviewers also tend to be the games that people enjoy. Its not a conspiracy. Games that people like, get recommended to other people, oh how terrible something must be done. Some people need to remove their heads from there rectums occasionally.

It's not a conspiracy, but it is a result of systematic bias:

Movies too, its like people want to watch/play/listen to things of a high quality and not get stuck with an epic mickey or cursed mountain. Weird something must be done about this

Well done.

A game gets hyped for ages by a company, it comes out, it usually gets good reviews. Assassin's Creed? Hyped for years, cover story in Game Informer, tons of support from UbiSoft in the form of posters and movie trailers when it came out. Got mostly good reviews. Doesn't mean I or many other people actually enjoyed it. A lot of people still say the first one sucked.

I don't even like the second one. Most people LOVED that, and I don't know why.

Then take a game like Golden Axe: Beast Rider that most reviewers hated. Oh, but one reviewer gave it a 9 and one gave it a 7. I guess maybe people might like it? No, we assume most of us will hate it. But how many of us even tried it?

I did. I wound up liking it quite a bit.

Just like how everyone wants to get a great game like Grand Theft Auto 4 and not something lame like Saints Row the Third?

Man, Epic Mickey was awesome. One of my favorite Wii games, because it was just one of the best straight-up platformers in years.

Oh, was I supposed to not like it because some critics didn't?

I don't need a study to tell me that most gamers don't have a will of their own. I just have to read message boards.

So people buy the best games? Is this a new thing or something?

So, they are the "best" games because of a silly score? People who only go by these scores are missing out on a lot of great games.

Perhaps you are one of those people? It's best to understand what a conversation is about before spouting the first thing that comes to mind.

The critics tell me that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best games this generation. Better than BioShock, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3 and Uncharted 3.

Thank god we all listened to THAT.

So, uh, I should play Guitar Hero: Metallica but skip inFamous 2, right? I mean, GH: Metallica got WAY better review scores.

No you were meant to not like it because the camera was broken, the platforming was so basic it made kirby blush, the paint vs thinner mechanic was completely undermined by the fact whatever you did was forgotten about as soon as you entered the next area. Combat(if you even want to call it that was shonky at best). Characters lacked character and personality, in a freaking disney game, Junction Point should each be kneecapped for that one. Sidequests were dull and redundant fetch quests. You can't even claim it was a good collectathon game as they locked off areas willy nilly. Everything about that game is awful, I ignored the lenient reviews(Reviewers who had free trips to disneyworld thrown at them) aren't to be trusted either way.
