Looking for games with "twist" endings, both good and bad

#1GradyHooverPosted 10/11/2012 11:23:14 AM
I'm trying to figure out which games have surprise "twist" endings over the years, ranging from your classic Metroid to your infamously ridiculous Bionic Commando remake.

The only other one that leaps to mind right now is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and I'd put it into the "bad" column. What else is there, though?

Journey might be arguable...

Braid. Once you realize what it is and the effect on the main character... DAMN.

Good call.

Also Nier and Metal Gear Solid just hit me upside the head... and probably the original Metal Gear, too.

Silent Hill 2

I had that ending hyped up for me in advance. When I finally got to it, I was shocked at how the game only shows you maybe 3 frames of video that might imply, if you freeze-frame it, what the hell is happening. It's so incredibly intentionally vague that I"m not sure if it should qualify as a twist. "If you give someone a twist ending, but more than half the audience can't tell WTF happened, is it still a surprise?" That's some zen crap there.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for sure though.
