Dark Souls.

No srsly, it'll replace your depression with immense frustration and anger to the point you'll take the challenge, conquer it and when you get that sense of achievement, you'd have forgotten why you were even depressed.

Pretty much this. I'd also suggest getting Killzone trilogy and going for the platinum on Killzone 2.

Loled. This.

Get Black Ops 2 or some other multiplayer game. Single player games feed depression.

Contrary to what many have suggested, I'd go against games like Journey. People in depressive states normally don't have much patience and/or open-mindedness to comprehend a game that puts you through an "experience". Plus, trudging through all that barren desert in Journey would make me want to kick a dog if I've had a bad day or was feeling down.

i'd say grab some simple nostalgia games from your childhood, i know one of the first things i do if i'm in a funk is fire up the nes and play mario 3, bubble bobble, or any other games that bring back good memories.

anything thats easy, familier and doesn't require much thought, even better if you invite a buddy over and order a pizza or something

I actually find that nostalgia does the exact opposite. Knowing that my life used to be awesome and that now it sucks actually makes things worse. >_>

TC I find what helps are platformers like Super Mario 64, Rayman Origins, and Sonic Generations. The light heartedness helps. I also like to play Metal Gear Solid 1, because Snake's feeling of isolations kind of feels like you can relate in some way.
