Getting a PS3 soon, what are some must own games?

If you like stealth then there is also Metal Gear Solid 4.
The story is very convoluted, but the gameplay is solid.

I also forgot to mention Heavy Rain.
Its gameplay mostly consists of QTE's, but the graphics are really good and the story is good (despite having a few holes).

And all of the games I mentioned are PS3 exclusives.
There are others, but these are my personal favorites (including the previously listed ones).

These games are visually stunning and have entertaining puzzle games, platforming and shooting and a must have IMO:

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

If you want a strong FPS: Battlefield 3. I would recommend Call of Duty Black Ops 2 but I just can't without having played it. It is expected to perform well on the ps3 but I'm not sure. I'll have it tomorrow and can give a better opinion then.

Some unique RPG games:

Demon's Souls *****MUST HAVE FITS THIS PERFECTLY***** Don't let the difficulty stop you, it's a tough but fair game.

Dark Souls (a pseudo-successor to Demon's Souls)

If you already have a 360 then you've probably played these but if this is your only console then I'd recommend checking out some of the Assassin's Creed games.

If you do get assassin's creed games, DO NOT BUY THE FIRST ONE. IT IS INCLUDED WITH Assassin's Creed Revelations I believe.

Another unique ps3 exclusive is Heavy Rain. It's a cinematic game that plays like a movie but gives you choices to make and lets your character move around, check it out on youtube.

That should be enough for you at the moment. You can get most of these and still not spend too much money at the same time as most of these games are somewhat old to moderately new.

Check out the PSOne Classics on their store. A lot of hidden gems there. For some newer stuff check out Red Dead Redemption, God of War, Mortal Kombat(online's kinda dead though), and Soldner X is a good one if you're into space shooters. Journey is a must own, but I'll warn you that it's a tad short(around 2 or 3 hours), but at $15 it's definitely worth at least one playthrough. I didn't really care for it, but a lot of people seem to like Assassins Creed pretty well. That's just a few off the top of my head. I've mostly been getting older stuff recently, so I haven't really played anything NEW in a while.

Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are all 3 Uncharted games.

If you haven't played all of the Metal Gears, those are worth playing. Yes, most of them are HD rereleases of previous consoles games, but MGS4 is not to be missed and it's a PS3 game. Better to play all of them than to try to jump in with 4.

Heavy Rain is cool if you like story games.

The Walking Dead games are also good if you like story games.

Dark Souls is one of the finest games ever made, if you can stand playing something extremely difficult.

NBA 2k11, 12 and 13 could all go after the title of greatest sports game ever made. They're all also very difficult. If you're into basketball it's definitely worth looking at.

Arkham Asylum is one of the best games I played this year. Arkham City I wasn't a huge fan of, but everybody loves it so it's worth checking out.

GTA IV was good.

Red Dead Redemption was amazing. Definitely worth checking out. One of my favorite games ever.

Bioshock isn't my favorite, but it's another everyone gets into.
