Who wants a biopunk JRPG?

The Matrix is Biopunk. Right?

No, it's cyberpunk. Life is a program, people are computers. The training program isn't DNA-modification, but another case of the mind being treated as digital matter. Think Ghost in the Shell with the cyberbrains.

So Ghost In The Shell is biopunk?

I meant that as in, think of the Matrix as being similar to Ghost in the Shell in this respect. Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk.

Please name a few movies and cartoons that are biopunk.

I like biorock more than biopunk. My personal favorite though is psychedelic biorock. The solos are better.

I was actually referring more to the game play style of those games. The theme can be whatever the hell they want to use, as long as they do it with a serious tone.

My problem with most JRPGs this generation has been the lighthearted tone. I've seen enough of it, I want something with the same game play style, but with a dark, serious intensity.

Math problems are the ultimate trick question. No matter how straight forward and simple they seem, the answer is never what you think it is.

I think Akira was biopunk. I can't remember what went on with Tetsuo at the hospital, but the imagery at the end (of Tetsuo's transformation) brought it to mind.

I'm embarrassed to say that's all I remember off the top of my head. Biopunk isn't as popular as traditional sci-fi. Same with fantasy punk -- not as popular as traditional fantasy. I'll post more as they come to me.

I agree. Not to knock light-heartedness, though. My disappointment with the abundance of light-hearted JRPGs is with them being empty-headed as well as light-hearted. Radiata Stories was a good example of light-heartedness being conducive to something greater than just "light-hearted."

Gives a slightly more thorough definition of biopunk and has examples of it from all media.
