FF7 hasn't aged well at all. I really don't see why people consider this GOAT.

Don't get me wrong - I loved the game when it was released and it did a lot for the industry.

But...

...this game looks and feels like crap. Clunky would be an understatement.

What's the modern day appeal of this game?

What do people like about it?

(Not trolling, just looking for others' opinions)

Why is nostalgia such a hard concept to grasp for people?

For the most part it's really that it was a lot of people's first RPG. It's a pretty good game on it's own but it's no where near that status.

it was never good to begin with.

A JRPG is built on the strength of it's story and characters, both of which are awful in that game.

Easily the most highly overrated game of all-time.

I wouldn't really ever consider a single player game for best game ever, but that's just me.

I like to compete.

Nostalgia is one thing...but to completely ignore that it doesn't hold up today is another.

I can't even imagine how someone must view gaming overall if their first RPG was that mess.

In YOUR OPINION, it doesn't hold up. In many others, including myself, it does, because, get this, it's not all about graphics.

Probably as "all FPS games are the death of gaming" and "why can't we have more games from Japan, because American games are stupid shooters." I'm just guessing, though - my first RPG was the first Final Fantasy... I think, I'm not positive (maybe it was Dragon Warrior 1.) I definitely don't think like that.
