Are dual shock 3s cheaply built?

I just got a ps3 a month ago and already I see my joysticks grinding to dust. Looked at my 10 year old ps2 controller. Still smooth. Whats with this gens poorly built controllers? The xbox controllers sticks always wear out fast too. They dont grind to dust but they eventually start drifting. Really annoying.

Ive had multiple new 360 controllers that came with joystick drift.

Everythings built more cheaply. Welcome to the future. Hower the ds3 does seem more durable than the xbox pads.

Mine has a giant crack in it thats getting worse and the vibration is really weak, so weak to the point where i have turned it off

my DS2 has been through alot worse and still has no cracks

Pretty much this. I remember when things like TV's were actually made of sterner stuff than just cheap plastic. Sure those old hi-fi's, and TV's were heavy. But they did last 20-50 years (in my household anyway). You'd be lucky to get a 5 year guarantee these days.

Everything is made with cheaper materials using labor that will work for cheaper wages. The reason your stuff used to be sturdy was because it wasn't coming from China, like 92% of all the stuff you buy now is.

Meh. They're usually fine. There are some duds, but they're very few. They're WAAAAY better than the aftermarket controllers though.

Planned obsolescence. Sony and MS make lots of moneys off controllers. They don't want the controller to last 10 years. Some do, but probably rare.

This controllers joysticks look like it will be completely worn out after a year... Everything else looks good. Why couldnt they just make it like the ps2 controllers?
