I think it's unfair for the games that are released past November since that's when Spike determines their nominees.
So that means that no matter how good a game is it won't be in the running for game of the year if it's released in December.

Hmm, the golden age of the past generation, but they only chose shooters for 4 years straight. I don't really care about awards, but that's interesting.
Indeed, but there's no denying that each of those games was either very innovative in some way or just plain excellent. And interestingly enough, the PS3/360 gen, which is flooded with FPS games, only had 1 year where the game given GOTY was a FPS.
