Western developer 1: "Hey let's try our hand at a Visual Novel dating sims. We haven't broken into that genre yet"

Western developer 2: "Okay that sounds good. Should be easy too since those are usually first person. Only...how are we going to implement the gun usage and MP? and can we replace the girls with beefy bald guys instead?"

To be completely honest though, NO ONE would want to buy a visual novel dating sim... and for good reason.

More importantly, visual novels, to me at least, just feel like dumbed down point and click adventure games. I can absolutely see someone buying them, Phoenix Wright and 999 were successful, but I just can't help but make comparisons to a genre I'm already into just make them seem overly simple.

Can I just say that I kind of appreciate the fact that choice and dialogue control in an RPG such a foreign concept to you that you ignorantly run around flapping your arms while tossing visual novel labels? It makes it easier for people to see they shouldn't bother arguing.

No you can't.

false illusion choices that all lead to the same ending anyway vs multiple endings in VN's due to actual choices that make a difference in the outcome. They couldn't even beat them in that regard...feh

This is actually completely untrue. A vast history of wonderful and creative games since the SNES prove this false immediately, but go ahead and keep living in that bubble of yours.

yes, sorry, you're right.

pewpewpewpew

is so different from

pew pew pew pew

so innovative, creative and imaginative

Implying that every good game/well selling game developed in a Western nation is an FPS/shooter. Again, someone needs to burst your bubble, because that is not true in the slightest.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age & The Sims are halfway there anyway and Hakuoki was 3rd on Amazon's best seller list for PSP games when it came out so people actually bought it...

Mass Effect, Dragon Age and The Sims did not sell well BECAUSE of that aspect though. If you removed everything else about those games and just kept the romanceable aspects intact, they would have flopped terribly.

Well Japan has the Harukanaru Toki no Naka de (In a Distant Time) RPG's by Koei Tecmo which have conversation dialogue choices and different routes just the same plus of course RPG battles so like Mass Effect & Dragon Age, they are also hybrids of dating simulators and rpgs (well with ME, a TPS with rpg elements), so it's not like that element is a foreign thing in Japan....

I wonder how many people deriding Dating Sims here realize that one of Atlus' most successful US-released games was a hybrid dating sim/visual novel/ block puzzle game...

Say anything you like, but the main reason i don't like W games is because 95% of their games is either :

- Shooter games
- Based on old Novel / old comics / old historic event

(and For the love of god and all living being W devs need to buy some TV and start to create something cool like Heartless , Gnosis , Six god general , Dead Cell , Four elemental , Akatsuki , Juppon katana , etc , etc , etc
instead of using something like skeleton , zombie , dragon , elf , dwarf , etc in infinte loop)

While J games on the other hand can make everything interesting

example :
- Trauma series ( based on hospital theme )
- Ace attorney series ( based on court room )
- Punch out ( based on boxing sport )

All PS3 owners should boycott Bethesda.

Sure, that's what Capcom, Konami Nintendo, Square-Enix and Sony's Japan-made stuff is.

>_>

Seriously, where does GameFAQs come UP with these people?
